Brief project description
Sciensano and the NIHDI have entered into an agreement regarding the post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) registry for HIV. Under this agreement, Sciensano undertakes, in collaboration with the HIV/AIDS reference centres, to create, update, manage and operate a cohort on HIV/AIDS in order to inventory and scientifically study, as exhaustively as possible, the totality of the population of HIV/AIDS patients in Belgium.
The purpose of this registry is to monitor the use of PEP in Belgium. The variables collected will allow:
- estimate the number of people who have received PEP treatment, determine their socio-demographic situation (age, gender, nationality) and their status as insured;
- describe the types of exposure for which PEP is prescribed and the period between exposure and intake of PEP;
- estimate the percentage of individuals who were prescribed PEP and completed the necessary 28 days.
